The Scenic & Costume Design categories celebrate the imagination and craft of theatre makers who shape the visual story. Whether you’re envisioning a fully realized production or creating a concept from the ground up, this is your chance to share your process, present your work, and receive meaningful feedback from professional designers.
Eligibility
Open to individual or collaborative student designers.
Designs may be realized (from an actual production) or conceptual.
Work from a Lenaea One-Act Play is eligible.
If your design is for a new or lesser-known show, we encourage submitting a script in advance so respondents can review the material.
Presentation Space
Your presentation must fit within a 30" × 30" footprint.
You’ll have 45 minutes to set up before your scheduled session and 45 minutes to strike afterward.
Each entry has a 20-minute session with respondents for presentation and feedback.
Design Showcase: A select group of finalists will be invited to share their work during the Design Showcase on Sunday morning — a celebration of creativity and craft. Designers will be notified by Saturday evening if chosen.
Preparation Tips: Want to make the most of your session? We’ll be providing a live training/discussion session (scheduling TBD) for designers and program directors, where we’ll cover:
Research and concept development
Communicating your design visually and verbally
Drafting, renderings, and model-building
Organizing your presentation materials
Presenting your design with confidence (in 5 minutes or less)
